Buhl 2012, Pfalz 12% (See background notes here.) |
Riesling (grape traced back to 1435) Trocken(dry) | Germany Pfalz (Rhine-warmest wine area Germany) |
Avery | £15 | Pale colour. Expressive Riesling nose of blossom, lime, grapefruit and white stone fruits. The palate is just a whisker from bone dry, with racy acidity and plenty of citrus. This has whistleclean lines and huge snap and energy. | BW – 9=1st BV – 1 Votes-15=2nd |

A modern-style Chardonnay with peachy, tropical fruit and butterscotch notes. Smooth and rich, this has creamy flavours of buttered toast, golden mango, Key lime pie and honey. Balancing all the sweet richness is fine acidity and a steely minerality.? 90pts, Wine Enthusiast. |

A contemporary style of smart, dry white from Sauternes. Ripe Sauvignon Blanc aromas dominate the nose, backed by more complex oak notes. The palate is assertively rich and layered from the lees ageing with bright passionfruit characters and lively acidity on the finish. |

A beautiful young white Burgundy. A restrained nose with sweet, toasty oak notes and preserved lemon. Weighty on the palate, but not at all fat, with citrus blossom and a savoury finish. At present all is linear and direct, promising plenty of evolution and interest to come. |

Deep, vibrant purple. Fresh and perfumed with floral and crunchy Cabernet Franc tones. The palate is breezy and lifted with impressive purity, supple tannins and a lovely mid-palate scent. This is really elegant and totally unforced. Effortless. |

A ripe, modern and toasty red with some
leather and spice notes in the background. The texture is very plush
and polished, seamless and glossy, with velvety, soft tannins. Almost
chocolate rich on the palate, this is a very indulgent style |

Avery | £30 | I was so impressed by the elegance of this wine, I called in some of the team to taste it! Here's one of their tasting notes: loaded with cherries with a heady concoction of warming spices. A soft, rich, melted-butter-like palate, additional raspberry jam smoothness and further toasty spice round it all off. | Votes – 17=1st |
